Have I given up?

Nope...

It's just that the program that I was using to learn French was too lame, and then with vacations and everything I just stopped studying French and writing here.

I still want to learn French so bad. As I said to one of my French friends, I think that it is going to take me all my life to learn French, but I won't give up.

I bought two really good books that are going to help me to contiunue studying. Those books are from Bescherelle. My French friend told me that those are really good books.

The first book is THIS one.

The other book is THIS one.

Those books are in French, but I can actually understand most of what is writen. I just need to keep studying and reading them.

I also want to start my own curriculum to learn French. I think that I will base it in the program of the Oficial School of Languages (Escuela Oficial de Idiomas) of my city. They have a French Department with the program, the methodolgy and the books they use.

If I work hard enough (he he he... I can do it, right?) one day I will be able to take the test there without the need of going to classes. Wish me good luck!!!!

La Tarte Tatin

L'histoire de la tarte Tatin (I copied and pasted what WIKIPEDIA says, I can't write very well):

D'après la tradition, ce dessert serait originaire de Lamotte-Beuvron enSologne : les sœurs Stéphanie (1838-1917) et Caroline Tatin (1847-1911) y tenaient un restaurant (qui existe toujours sous le nom d'hôtel-restaurant Tatin, face à la gare) fréquenté par de nombreux chasseurs. Un dimanche d'ouverture de la chasse, alors qu'elle préparait une tarte aux pommes pour un repas de chasseurs, l'une des sœurs, étourdie, la laissa brûler. Elle décida de rajouter de la pâte et remit la tarte au four. Les chasseurs ont apprécié cette tarte, qui est devenue la tarte Tatin.

Curnonsky présente cette tarte à Paris en 1926 sous le nom de « tarte des demoiselles Tatin »¹.

C'est très difficile

Yes, it's starting to be quite hard form me. The program that I'm using to study French sometimes can be quite boring. There are some word searchs that I actually don't like much, even though I know it's good to improve my spelling. I also thought that I was going to have more grammar, but I don't. I guess that it's because I'm just at the beginning and I'm studing more vocabulary.

Anyhow... numbers...

WOW! Numbers are hard. You see:

99: quatre-vingt-dix-neuf ------> it's literally translated into four-twenty-nineteen. Ehem... so whenever I have to say a number that is over 60, I have to start adding... :S.

This happens with the following numbers:

70: soixante-dix
80: quatre-vingt
90: quatre-vingt-dix

I need to do a lot of excercises to practice it. I must admit that I never quite knew very well the numbers in French, but now I have the goal to really learn them.

Little cards

Due to the tons of comments that I've had (it's obvious that nobody reads this blog) I am using the little cards to learn the vocabulary.

There were some words that I quite didn't know how to use them, but I called my tutor and he explained to me what it really meant:

- Veste: it's like a cardigan
- Gilet: it's a vest.
- Robe: a normal dress.
- Vêtement: a formal dress.

I'm glad I could call him and he could answer me. I can tell that at least he knows vocabulary!

I have a question...

What do you think that it's the best way to study vocabulary? I thought about writing in little cards the words in French on one side and in Spanish on the other.

When I studied English, I used to write them all the time, but since I don't have much time to be sitting down, I thought that this was a good idea.

What do you think?
